Mountain Training Week

Finally, back in the mountains for some much-needed mountain-leg training.

I missed this last year and went to Chiang Mai UTMB without much climbing-specific training. I had planned to head to Rishikesh or somewhere similar after VDHM, but an unexpected bout of dengue meant that even my training was limited for a while.

This isn’t exactly the most appropriate time to be training in the mountains or preparing for a mountain race. The Delhi Half Marathon is just 18 days away, and this week should technically have been my peak training week.

But the Delhi Half is no longer a PB race for me. For some reason, I haven’t been able to get my summer training going the way I used to. So, I am letting that go and will save the next proper HM training block for the New Delhi Marathon in February.

For now, I am here in the mountains, so it’s time to make the most of it.

Two days in, and the legs are already feeling the elevation. And honestly, that’s a good thing. Yesterday’s trail outing was quite an adventure; slippery trails, plenty of climbing, and a healthy dose of elevation. Thankfully, the knees are holding up well.

Looking forward to accumulating a lot more elevation over the rest of the week.
