Monsoon Training: Late Starts and Treadmill Run

August is the rainy season in Delhi. Unlike places like Kerala where I am from, the rain here is not so pretty…

Delhi simply doesn’t have the infrastructure to handle this much rain. Drainage is inadequate, roads flood, and once the water rises, already-broken roads can become quite dangerous. And with climate change, the weather feels more unpredictable… and more violent than ever.

So, like previous monsoons, I am relying on the treadmill again this season.

The problem is that the rain often arrives unexpectedly, right around 6 AM, when I usually head out. I don’t like running too early because I’ve had a few scary encounters with cyclists in the dark, including one who almost hit me. And I don’t want to wait until 10 or 11 AM either. Because the moment the rain stops, Delhi goes right back to being hot and humid.

So yes, I’d rather run indoors and be absolutely bored.

Treadmill runs always fell too easy… So, whenever I am running indoors, I make it a ‘hill’ workout. Where will we get that opportunity to run hills in Delhi!

Anyway, I am typing this at 7am with a heavy rain outside… there is no indication it will stop anytime… So, treadmill it is again!

That time I was caught in a rain in Sanjay Van… Trails are less scary, at sometimes slippery.
Treadmill run days!
One of the good things happening during the rains… the plants!
