After a dip in training during June, July was all about getting back into a consistent routine. The weather certainly didn’t make it easy. The month began with relentless heat, and finding the motivation to wake up early was a challenge in itself.

This training block has been focused on recovery, and I promised myself I wouldn’t compromise on sleep. If I had a bad night’s rest, I’d swap the planned outdoor run for the treadmill instead. It wasn’t always glamorous, but it meant I kept showing up.

As a result, I logged plenty of treadmill miles, especially in the first half of the month. I also squeezed in a few speed sessions, though it’s time to get more serious now. Racing season kicks off in October, with a few tune-up races in September, so there’s not much room left to procrastinate.

Looking back, Iam happy with how the month turned out – 327 km of running. The long runs weren’t particularly long, but that’s okay. Right now, consistency matters more than big mileage.

Also positives from the month – consistent with strength and mobility, house in order and planned a small get together, did a lot of gardening, got back to the old habit of upcycling and art, cooked lot of healthy meals, shopped less from Amazon! Proud!

On to August. Time to build.
