Menstrual hygiene is a necessity, not a luxury

May 28 is Menstrual Hygiene Day, an annual awareness day to highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene management.
For trail running women, managing menstrual hygiene requires proper planning and the right supplies to ensure comfort and health.
Here are some key tips to help manage hygiene while on trail running:

  1. Choose the right menstrual product: Select a product that suits your comfort and activity level, menstrual cups (most eco-friendly), tampons, right kind of pads or period underwear.
  2. Plan ahead: Know your cycle and practice changing in the wilderness to reduce stress.
  3. Stay clean: Pack hand sanitizers or biodegradable soap and water before and after handling menstrual products.
  4. Manage discomfort with proper hydration and nutrition: maintain a balanced diet to help manage menstrual symptoms.
  5. Respect the environment: Pack out all used menstrual products and leave no trace. Go with biodegradable options:
  6. Clothing and gear: Wear moisture-wicking, breathable, and quick-drying clothing to prevent chafing and discomfort, and always have backup gear.

Menstrual hygiene is a necessity, not a luxury!
