Shutting down the negative voices in my head!

We all know about these negative voices in our head: reminding us of the mistakes we have done in the past and telling us we are not good enough. The fast few months – running and training and the negative thoughts in my head – it was a ride! I am not a person to talk about these negativities and for a while I was stuck with these in my head!

I have realised that just because that voice exists doesn’t mean I have to stuck with it. It took a while to develop these ‘shutting down’ mechanism; but now i am not bothered by it.

  1. Acknowledge the existence of these voice: Of course we have done mistakes in the past. But we have moved on; we don’t have to live in the past. Think about how far we have come.
  2. Fight back with positive thoughts: When we remember something unpleasant, remind ourselves of the massive wins and achievements – that crazy difficult workout you nailed.
  3. Stay connected with people who lift you: We have that one good friend, or that one good group who would cheer you on. Keep them close.
  4. Write about it: When I am bothered by thoughts, i often take up my pen and journal and write them down. Most times, when i am done, i reflect these as silly. Paint your voices stupid!

We are all humans and our lives are not perfect. We all have so much negativity around us and it is easy to fall into all that forget about the goodness around. Hold on the good times and memories and the good people! They will save during the dark times!
