That PB feeling

I took a break from ultra and trail marathons 2 years back to focus on leg speed. The many races and the injuries and few DNFs were demotivating factors along with the fact that I am slowing down!

So I have been working with a coach to improve on my marathon timing – for me a marathon was everything and my first priority! It took almost two years for me to get back that leg speed breaking some records on the way like a 10k best and narrowly missing a half marathon best to get a BQ timing in marathon!

I could have gone back to trails and do whatever I wanted. But I was a bit greedy – thinking one more year on read to break that Half Marathon PB i set in 2017! It’s almost 6 years and that number kind of annoying me! So, started my training block in June for the October race.

June has been one annoying month – with the summer supposedly at the peaks and 80+% humidity. We also had some early rains this month! Braving the rain and humidity, I have logged a 300+ km this month. This is nothing compared to my old 400+km months back in 2019 and 2020. But i was happy with some quality workouts happening these days.

And closed the month with a 5k PB. My last 5k best was in 2018 when i had a 23:38. Managed sub-23 this time with a 22:59. This was the confidence i needed for a while. Most mornings when there is a hard workout I get up with a thousand excuses to skip running. I have a fear of failure! To me this is a milestone moment.
