Dealing with Monsoon and Running

It’s rainy season in India and rain brings lot of positivity (unless it is flooding). When you are living in a city like Delhi where temperature can go over 40 degrees (C), the small window of monsoon seems like heaven.

But… there is a but… Rains and runs don’t go so well actually. It’s good to have that one run in the reason where you can go crazy and have some fun and click loads of photos forInstagram. But that is not something i would recommend for the whole season.

When you train, the elements around you affects the performance. Having an interval session in rain is not going to help you improve anywhere unlike a session in heat or humidity. Rain is more a distraction and for some people, they can easily fall sick. And, tell me about the chafing and rashes with the wet clothes rubbing against the skin!

There are many who say ‘oh rain can help you deal with adversity’; but rain run is not a workout. It’s few weeks of rain in Delhi already and i was exposed to rains many times. I don’t step out to a rain to run in rain; i would rather complete that on a treadmill. But, you can’t help it if it rains when you are out on a run!

Rains are lovely and have a calming effect on humans. But as runners, we need to make smart choices on the conditions for a run! Let’s take pictures and come run on a treadmill when it rains for your own good! (Many won’t agree with this. But, that is okay.)

Those irresistible trails during rains. But I got a bad cold right after this run!
