Kicking some motivation in at 5am!

That’s me some days!

Yes, I am a very passionate runner and I love running. I also love the process of learning and growing and building up for a big race! When I am in a training block, I am always looking to check that off the calendar in green and move to the next day. When I say ‘always’, I mean most days.

Then there will be some days, I feel like not getting out of the bed at all. My train of thought those times would be – “hmm, I can cut it short” or “shall I do it on treadmill” or “shall I swap this big workout with an easy run day”. I will make any excuse to not run in the morning for an evening run or run on treadmill. During winter, it was easy to run in the afternoon because it won’t burn you down. But for rest of the year in Delhi, running any day other than morning is unthinkable. So, sometimes, I go for a treadmill run – which never gave me a 100% DONE feel.

So, now the winter is over and it started getting warm in Delhi. So, obviously, you need to start earlier and no longer a 7am start like in the winter. So, you need to get up earlier. And hence the evil thoughts of run on treadmill or seeking other options.

Your brain is telling you 5am is for sleeping and you have been doing that all winter and how it felt good. So, the early morning self talk to knock some sense into my fuzzy brain:

“No, nope… you are not going back to sleep. Running is for morning.”

“Okay, you can have 5 more minutes. After that you are getting up.”

“How beautiful the morning is going to be. Get up, get going.”

“DO you really want to cut your weekly mileage?”

Most of the time, it’s the last that will get me going :D. Oh runners, we are so obsessed with our mileage!
