Ultra Half – World’s highest race that almost happened…

About last week! Ultra Half race…

It was supposed to be world’s highest race… Some of us had a chance to reach the summit of mount #Yunam @ 6111 m through a half marathon…
Unfortunately, the weather gods said no to our run… After four days of acclimatization hikes and runs (and loads and loads of fun) with clear skies, it started pouring on Friday morning, race day!!!

We all got up before 12 am to start from Jispa camp at 2am… The race was to start from Bharatpur tent colony, few kms from Jispa… But, the heavy snow didn’t let us reach there… With tye crew at the summit (in snow) and the rest of us stuck enroute, difficult decisions were made – the race was called off considering the safety of all participants!

Stuck in snow
Snow snow snow… Snow everywhere!

It was hard to receive the news… but, i think it was harder for the organisers to make that call… They did everything they can to make us comfortable all week… Nothing went wrong all week except the weather on race day, which is under nobody’s control…

Though the race didn’t happen officially, we did run on race day! Some of us gathered together and set out for a run with most having their bibs pinned to their tees… It was a tribute to the mountains and the best race organisers I have come across in all these years of running…

Geared up for the unofficial run

I didn’t go to this event for glory or to break my Half Marathon PB or anything else… I went there to experience running at crazy altitudes… And, I had the time of my life in the hills – met some amazing, crazy athletes… had great runs and hikes… learned new tricks from the best… clicked loads of pics… and loads of memories made!!!

Mountain dogs are always friendly

To me the race was never cancelled… It just got started… now, I need to go back and finish it off next year…
