Yes… finally I am in the stadium run club… Gathered my courage to jump into this madness! And almost did a 100k; 96.5 k officially and 101 k on my Strava…
All started with an ultra-marathoner friend of mine mentioned during a Sunday long run that why don’t I try the Bangalore 12 hr run… I was like ‘no… I can’t do it… You know my knees… and what not…’
She was certain I could do it provided I fix the fueling mistake from last ultra… I said I will give it a go and signed up…
Did normal training like any other ultra… Logging around 100-120km per week; not enough in ultramarathon terms… But, with my work schedule, that’s all I could manage…
Landed in Bangalore 2 days before the run… I was a bundle of nerves… Chatted with few ultra runners before the race… Sorted out the fueling and crewing plan… Now it was up to me!
The plan was to do a 100 k… 55 in first 6hrs and 45 in last 6… The thing about stadium runs is you should not depend on your Garmin! My first mistake… At 6hrs, I was at 56km on my Garmin… Then my plan of slowing down started… Second mistake… That was not needed… I could have gone with that 6:30 pace for another 2 hrs… In the end it was 101 on Garmin and 240 laps officially… I was running in lane 2; so, it was like 97.7 km… They later corrected some ‘human error’ and made it 237 laps and 96.5 km as final result… Second in women; lost out to the winner by 1.9km…

Well, was that hard?
- It was indeed.
Would I do that again?
- Definitely, I would.
There were few rookie mistakes I made in the second half… First being slowing down unnecessarily… Second, too many breaks… I could have easily done a 105k… But, how will I learn if everything is going well…
Happy with the outing… Looking forward to more challenges…
For now, back to my marathon training…
